A teaser for Pudgy World, a 3D browser game, was unveiled by Pudgy Penguins, the Ethereum NFT profile photo collection that debuted in July 2021, during Art Basel in Miami. In 2024, the game is scheduled to become live in alpha. Pudgy Penguins increased its market share in the United States and raised $9 million in funding following a leadership transition and the creation of an executive advisory board. Pudgy Penguin NFT holders and owners of plush toys can embrace a virtual representation of their valuables as a 3D character in the game Pudgy World, which will be available for free to play. Along with character customisation options, the game will feature a narratively focused adventure.
Pudgy World will make use of zkSync, a zero-knowledge blockchain solution developed by Matter Labs for the Ethereum layer-2 scaling protocol. The advantages of zero-knowledge proofs for user privacy over typical blockchain transactions on open networks such as Ethereum are well established. SVP of Growth at Matter Labs Michael Lee said that ZK technology will ‘open new business models and gaming experiences’ for gamers, but he did not provide specifics on how Pudgy World will use zkSync.
