After being caught selling Xanax, ecstasy, and ketamine on the deep web, a guy from Brockton, Massachusetts was sentenced to eight years in prison and had to forfeit 59 bitcoin worth $2.3 million. Massachusetts law enforcement has dealt with a significant federal forfeiture connected to a “darknet kingpin”. Binh Thanh Le, 25, of Brockton, has been charged with operating “Eastsidehigh,” a Wall Street Market business. According to the report, Le sold Xanax, ecstasy, and ketamine and was apprehended with a massive number of these substances, 59 bitcoin, and $114K in cash.
When Le was arrested in June of this year, he was 22 years old. 10,000 Xanax tablets, 44 pounds of MDMA (ecstasy), and about 15 pounds of the anesthetic ketamine were intercepted by Massachusetts authorities. Le sold his 2018 BMW M3 worth $66.5K for $42.3K at the time of settlement, according to Boston Herald contributor Flint McColgan.
Rachael Rollins, the United States Attorney for Massachusetts, said on Saturday that Le will be sentenced to eight years in prison and that his bitcoins are now in the hands of law authorities. “This sentence sends a strong message to Dark Web criminals: the federal government is moving into this territory.” In a statement, Rollins stated, “We will locate you and hold you accountable.” The US Attorney went on to say:
There is one fewer cybercriminal lurking in the shadows thanks to the heroic efforts of our law enforcement colleagues.
