Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is doubling down on his Ether-skepticism by downplaying the network’s potential to shake up the world of the social media giants.
Self-professed Bitcoin (BTC) maximalist Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter, is not giving Ethereum (ETH) followers an inch. In his newest offhand comment concerning the market’s second-largest cryptocurrency, Dorsey downplayed the platform’s potential to shake up the established order in Big Tech single-handedly.
Dorsey’s remark adopted a web-based discussion of the usefulness of a full-blown integration of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) into Twitter, which @seyitaylor argued would be extra to the advantage of Ethereum than to the social media website.
Dorsey agreed that such a transfer could be extra consequential for the Ethereum ecosystem than for his personal platform however added: “Each account on Twitter having the ability to hyperlink to a Lightning wallet, nonetheless.”
Despite Twitter’s previous dabbles in the world of NFTs – and Dorsey’s own use of the expertise to lift cash for charity – Dorsey has remained a staunch Bitcoin advocate, much to the frustration of both Ethereum diehards and fewer sectarian crypto followers.
When one Twitterer responded to Dorsey’s comments, pushing him to clarify, “Why the ETH hate then if there’s room for a couple of pieces to the puzzle?” Dorsey’s rejoinder was that “deal with one factor isn’t hated of the others. I’ve made my considerations known about others compared to Bitcoin. Key ones are founding rules, safety, and centralization.”
On another Twitter thread, @garrytan probed the “mystery” of Dorsey’s single-minded preoccupation with Bitcoin, which @timothy_skim proposed was the veteran crypto’s promise to serve as “sound money,” which he claimed was “critical,” “especially for the globally underprivileged.” Dorsey joined the discussion to agree, asserting that he’s in Bitcoin “to help fix the money,” adding he was “not trolling.”
In yet another of the multiple threads circling the identical theme, Dorsey rebuffed claims he was deliberately throwing shade on Ethereum and clarified that for him, “decentralization isn’t an end goal it’s only one methodology of fixing the money.” Elsewhere on Twitter, Dorsey mentioned that whereas he agrees with the spirit NFTs, his advocacy of Lightning on this context had been nothing to do with them but somewhat with “enabling a currency for the web.”
This has been a long-time motto of Dorsey’s, who has repeatedly argued that Bitcoin would be the sole foreign money of the web since at the least 2018. Not like different Bitcoin followers, who concede there may at some point be a “flipping” of the 2 high cash’ fortunes, he has remained, as far as is publicly recognized, reluctant to put money into the altcoin at the present time.
