Madonna has released her first NFT collection, a series of videos featuring a digital Madonna graphically giving birth to various flora and fauna, in collaboration with artist Beeple.
Madona’s NFTs feature vivid visuals of a tree, butterflies, and, in one of my personal favourites, robot centipedes issuing from the singer’s vaginal canal. They also show Madonna reading poetry in a threatening tone, a combination of her own lines and those of Persian poet Rumi.
According to Madonna, Mother of Creation took a year to create with Mike Winkelmann (also known as Beeple). On Wednesday, the three NFTs will be available for auction on SuperRare. While this isn’t Beeple’s first time creating an NFT, it’s surely not his first. At Christie’s, Winkelmann notoriously oversold a computerised collage of previous work for $69 million, the house’s first ever NFT sale.
Despite being embroiled in his own problematic B20 token, Winkelmann has been very negative on NFTs since becoming a millionaire overnight last year, even dubbing the market a bubble.
In March 2021, Beeple tweeted, “I don’t want to see people spend money on money-grab crap.” Now, the musician considers his NFT work with Madonna a “wonderful honour.”
According to reports, all revenues will go to three charity that help women and children throughout the world. However, given the current crypto bear market, it’s unclear who would buy the NFTs, especially when each film can be downloaded with a single click on the official website.
Madonna told the,
“I never want to be provocative just for the purpose of being provocative.” “They represent hope.” They represent technology.”
