The administration is creating a framework so city agencies can assess the hazards of AI tools. 37 essential actions will be included in the plan, 29 of which are expected to get started or be finished in the upcoming year. A framework for AI governance, an advisory network for AI, training for city officials in AI, and the release of an annual AI success report are some of the objectives of the plan. While technology offers potential for the government to provide services to its inhabitants more effectively, Mayor Adams said they also need to be aware of its pitfalls.
The first pilot of NYC’s first citywide AI chatbot will be included in the announcement via the city’s MyCity Business platform. The chatbot will assist in addressing inquiries about starting or running a business. The adoption of the chatbot, according to Maria Torres-Springer, the city’s deputy mayor for housing, economic development, and workforce, is a significant step towards making the government more approachable to everybody. In order to provide information on compliance with codes and laws, available business incentives, and best practices to avoid violations and fines, the new AI chatbot will be able to source information from over 2,000 NYC business-related web pages.
