According to a recent tweet and related blog post, MakerDAO founder Rune Christensen has suggested using a fork of the Solana blockchain for the last stage of Maker’s “Endgame” strategy. The fifth and final component, known as “NewChain,” aims to recreate the whole Maker Protocol on a standalone blockchain.
According to Christensen, this change will make the ecosystem more secure and environmentally benign, enabling it to recover gracefully from political or technological setbacks. The project is long-term, and it could take at least three years to complete, according to predictions.
The Solana codebase was chosen as a potential foundation for NewChain for three main reasons, according to him. First off, Solana‘s codebase is regarded as having very high technical quality and being highly optimized, especially in the areas that NewChain demands. The Solana ecosystem has proven to be resilient, and Maker can tap from its thriving development community. Finally, Christensen cites successful instances of the Solana codebase being cloned for related projects, like the Pyth community, as evidence of its adaptability.
Despite the promise of Solana, Christensen didn’t exclude other choices, mentioning Cosmos as another strong competitor. However, Christensen claims that it loses ground quickly to Solana in terms of effectiveness.
