Unstoppable Domains agrees not to assert its patents against Alliance members required to meet the Alliance’s interoperability and safety requirements.
The Web3 Area Alliance, a member-led coalition dedicated to bettering the technological and public policy environments for Web3 naming service customers, has introduced 52 new members, including Blockchain.com, Rarible, Wyre, Bitdegree, WazirX, and Klever, in addition to dozens of different naming methods, initiatives, and corporations.
To aid in the continued advancement of digital identification expertise in Web3, Alliance members and Unstoppable Domains will contribute expertise as well as interoperability and security requirements. As part of the commitment, Unstoppable has agreed not to assert its patents against Alliance members required to meet the Alliance’s interoperability and safety requirements. More information is available on the Web3 Area Alliance website. Unstoppable, a founding member of the Web3 Area Alliance, was recently awarded a patent for resolving blockchain domains and aims to help innovation throughout the Web3 trade with its IP investments.
Members of the Web3 Area Alliance will collaborate on issues such as client security, interoperability of blockchain naming methods, honest and open use of intellectual property in the trade, preventing naming collisions, and more. The Web3 Area Alliance will advocate for requirements within the Web3 area industry to foster innovation and a safe environment for people. To avoid a reputation clash, the team at Web3 social buying and selling community Metascan recently deprecated their NFT top-level domain and joined the Web3 Area Alliance.
“As an early member of the Web3 Area Alliance, we’re honored to collaborate with our new co-members to unlock potential in the Web3 area,” said Sandy Carter, SVP & Channel Chief of Unstoppable Domains. “As a group, we’ll build a Web3 area where new ideas and innovation can thrive, and more people can personalize their digital identities.”
Web3 domains have grown in popularity, with around 3.4 million domains reportedly created in the industry in 2022 alone. In response to this growing interest, the Web3 Area Alliance was established in November 2022 as the primary trade group to develop requirements for the blockchain naming trade. The Web3 Area Alliance also intends to actively participate in discussions with ICANN to raise ICANN’s awareness and recognition of Web3 High Degree Domains (W3TLDs).
“Digital identification is the next great frontier of Web3, and we’re excited to help innovation in this area via the Alliance,” said Lane Kasselman, President of Blockchain.com. “We look forward to serving as a group to set standards to protect customers as the Web3 area trade grows.”
Web3 domains are an essential part of an individual’s Web3 digital identification. Domains can be used to send and receive cryptocurrency rather than lengthy alphanumeric pocket addresses, host a website you own entirely, set up secure electronic mail forwarding, and sign into various apps, video games, metaverses, and extra. Web3 domains are created on the blockchain and saved in the pockets of users, putting ownership in the hands of the owner.
